- Embed natively in the workflow. AI that needs a separate login does not get used. Tools that surface at the point of care, inside the EHR, are the ones that earn sustained use.
- Frame AI as a second opinion, not a new standard. Dismissible alerts, trackable overrides, and outcome data that shows when AI was right — and respected the physician's judgment when they disagreed — build trust over time.
- Use champion physicians. Top-down mandates generate resistance. Identify early adopters by specialty, fund small local pilots, and let peer endorsement drive uptake.
- Show institutional outcomes, not vendor case studies. Physicians trust their own institution's data. Run internally validated pilots and share the results in departmental forums.
- Start with high-stakes, hard-to-ignore use cases. Sepsis deterioration alerts, missed imaging findings, unexpected lab flags — where the stakes justify the tool and the improvement is visible.
